From cleaning and repairs to premium stains and protective coatings, we prepare and finish your deck to withstand Auckland’s weather while looking beautiful year-round.
Step 1 — Deck Cleaning & Moss Removal: We start by thoroughly cleaning your deck, removing built-up dirt, moss, mould, and algae that thrive in Auckland’s damp climate, creating a clean surface ready for treatment.
Step 2 — Sanding & Careful Surface Preparation: We sand back old, flaking coatings and smooth any rough or splintered timber and spot prime where needed.
Step 3 — Timber Repairs & Fixing Checks: We check for rot, loose boards, and rusted or worn fixings, carrying out minor repairs before painting to ensure your deck is structurally sound and safe.
Step 4 — Expert Stain or Paint Application: Using premium, weather-resistant stains or paints, we apply the recommended number of coats to protect against Auckland’s harsh UV, rain, and foot traffic wear. For painted decks we can also add a non-slip additive for extra safety
Step 5 — Final Check & Protective Finish: We inspect the decking for even coverage and carry out any necessary touch ups, leaving you with a durable, beautiful, long-lasting deck.

"They finished within the timeframe they had stated, which was so important for us — as a rental property, we needed to get it back on the market as soon as possible, and Auckland City Painters were fantastic at getting the work done well and on time."

"The previous three times I can remember having the house painted, we used a different firm — and I must say, their teams weren’t as professional, competent, or diligent as the Auckland City Painters team was."

Our local expertise ensures we understand Auckland’s unique climate and painting needs.

Your home’s exterior should reflect quality and care. At Auckland City Painters, we deliver durable, weather-resistant painting that boosts curb appeal and protects your property—whether you’re selling or staying put.
Specialising in residential painting across Auckland means we’ve also transformed countless apartments – CBD or suburban, chances are we’ve even painted your neighbour’s place.
This Avondale property needed its house, roof, and deck refreshed together, with never-painted plywood cladding showing years of weather exposure. The homeowner wanted everything finished while away on holiday, so we scheduled around that window and carried out a chemical wash across the cladding, roof, and deck before prepping. The deck was repainted in Resene Stack to match the refreshed exterior, tying it into the newly painted cladding and bold red front door, a genuinely coordinated finish.
Alongside a roof and exterior repaint on this Manukau Harbour foreshore property, the decks, pergola, and balustrades had weathered to a dull grey after years of salt air. We cleaned every surface thoroughly, then applied two coats of Resene Woodsman in Natural for a warm, durable finish. Timber this close to the harbour needs a stain system that can handle constant salt exposure, not just fresh colour, which is why Woodsman was chosen, now warm and properly protected.
As part of a full strip-and-repaint of this character villa on Grove Road, Sandringham, the front veranda deck needed the same preparation as the rest of the exterior after years of delamination. Once the surrounding weatherboards and joinery were stripped and re-primed, the deck was coated in Resene Tapa, a grounded tone complementing the Dulux Narrowneck Half colour-match on the weatherboards. A deck this visible at the entrance needed a finish that could handle foot traffic while suiting the palette.
This classic timber bungalow near Cornwall Park had decorative fretwork and a deck that had carried years of Auckland weather, with cladding sections delaminating. As part of stripping back the failed coatings, the deck, front door, and shingled bay window skirt were all finished in Ironsand, a grounding accent colour that anchors the lighter weatherboard tones elsewhere. Deck timber cops heavy sun and foot traffic, so getting the prep and coating right matters just as much here as anywhere on the house.
Most Auckland decks need restaining or repainting every 2–3 years, though this depends on the timber type, sun exposure, and foot traffic. If you’re noticing fading, greying, or flaking, it’s a sign your deck is due for attention.

Yes, we can handle minor repairs such as loose boards, rot, and worn fixings as part of the painting process. For larger structural repairs, we can recommend a trusted builder to ensure your deck is safe and sound before we paint.
Deck painting is weather-dependent, so we closely monitor Auckland’s conditions and plan around them to avoid delays. If rain interrupts work, we’ll keep you updated and reschedule as needed.
The timing for repainting your house interiors depends on factors like wear and tear, damage, changing trends, and the need to brighten your space. As a general guide:
If you’re unsure, we’re happy to assess your property and provide expert advice.
Yes, we stand by our work. All our painting projects are covered by our personal 5-Star Guarantee, along with the Master Painters 5-Year Workmanship Guarantee, giving you complete peace of mind.
Yes! Our trade accounts enable huge savings over the normal retail cost of paint and you won’t have to do any running around when we need more.
No, we take care of all the scaffolding for the project. For larger or tricky areas, we work with professional scaffold contractors to ensure everything is set up safely and efficiently.
We can handle minor building repairs essential to the painting process, such as fixing cracks, replacing rotten weatherboards, and repairing damaged plaster or gib. For larger structural repairs, we can recommend trusted professionals to ensure the work is completed to a high standard before painting begins.
Our rule of thumb is however many coats are specified by the paint manufacturer is what we will apply, because by doing anything less is to void your paint warranty. Generally, this means a 3-coat system for new work and a 2-coat system for repaints.
